In addition to regular consulting services, I am also available as a Fractional CMO, providing part-time marketing leadership for your business for a fixed period, typically for 3 months or more.

The key difference between acting as a marketing consultant and as a Fractional CMO is the level of involvement. As a Fractional CMO, I would effectively run your marketing operation on a day-to-day basis, as if I were a full-time marketing director, but, of course, without the associated overhead cost and commitment that full-time employment would require from your side.

As a Fractional CMO I could work with an existing junior marketing team, who themselves would benefit from professional, on-the-job coaching, or I am able to draw upon the services of an outsourced marketing team as required.

A 3-month assignment is the recommended minimum requirement. This gives time to conduct a full diagnosis of the business, including planning, running and analysing consumer research, before moving on to strategy; starting with segmentation, then targeting and positioning. Full tactical execution, across the whole marketing mix, would require more time. Typically, of course, a marketing plan operates on a 12-month basis, in line with your corporate fiscal year. Towards the end of that year, an assessment is made of marketing performance, against both short and long-term objectives, before a revised plan is developed for the next year.
